JANIS HEFLEY

Janis Hefley is a local Dallas art photographer. While earning a Masters Degree in Art History, she became interested in photography and realized that she had found her passion. Although her original training was in traditional black and white darkroom techniques, she currently works with innovative digital technology. Janis was one of the first digital imaging instructors in the private school system in Dallas as the photography and digital imaging instructor at the Episcopal School of Dallas for 18 years.

While practicing her career as an art photographer, Janis has exhibited her work extensively. Her work was recently featured in the Contemporary Art Center in Abilene, Texas. Her photographs have been in three shows at the prestigious Photographs Do Not Bend Gallery in Dallas. She has also shown at the offices of Tom Maddrey PLLC, The North Haven Gardens Gallery, The Small Gallery in Dallas, The Dallas Bath House Cultural Center, and the McKinney Avenue Contemporary Gallery. 

Her work has been featured in D Magazine, Preston Hollow People, Mountain Living Magazine as part of a Thom Filicia design, and most recently in People Newspapers.

She has won many awards for her imagery throughout the years. Some of her most recent recognitions are:  the 2022 Featured Artist at the Episcopal School of Dallas, Honorable Mention in the Texas Photographic Society Members Show in 2020, and in 2017, Janis was featured in the Association of Texas Photography Instructors’ publication, The Best of Texas High School Photography, as an Outstanding Texas Photography Instructor.
